Dree Collopy joined Maggio & Kattar in August 2007. She is an Associate Attorney on Maggio & Kattar's Litigation Team, where she assists clients with deportation and removal defense, asylum, naturalization, adjustment of status, waivers of inadmissibility, and federal litigation cases. Dree also has experience in employment-based immigrant and nonimmigrant visas. Dree's article entitled "Incorporating a Hardship Factor in Asylum Claims Based on Female Genital Mutilation: A Legislative Solution to Protect the Best Interests of Children" was published in the Spring 2007 issue of the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal, and her article entitled "Lost In Translation: Why Professional Interpreters are Critical to the Fairness of Asylum Interviews" will be published in the May/June 2008 issue of AILA's Immigration Law Today. While in law school, Dree clerked at the Headquarters Immigration Court in Falls Church, VA, and interned at Ayuda, Inc. in Washington, DC, where she worked on family-based immigration matters and represented clients in political asylum cases. She also interned at the Department of Justice Office of Immigration Litigation and on Capitol Hill for The Honorable Senator Tom Harkin (D - IA). Dree earned her J.D. and Certificate in Law and Public Policy from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, where she served as President of Students for Public Interest Law and an editor for The Catholic University Law Review. Dree received her B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from Grinnell College. She is fluent in Spanish.
