Anna Marie Gallagher is a Shareholder at Maggio + Kattar and the head of the litigation and global visas practice. Anna is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of asylum and refugee law. Anna has practiced immigration law for more than two decades in the United States, Central America and Europe. Her experience includes private practice, legal advocacy in the nonprofit sector and several years in academia. As a result of her diverse background, she brings a unique perspective to her practice with the firm.

Previously, Anna was the Director of the Legal Action Center at the American Immigration Law Foundation (now the American Immigration Council) where she was charged with analyzing and commenting on proposed regulations, mentoring attorneys on complex immigration and refugee law issues, and collaborating with advocates in federal court litigation challenging provisions. Anna also taught immigration and refugee law in the United States and Spain. She was a teaching fellow at the Center for Applied Legal Studies (CALS), the political asylum clinic at Georgetown University Law Center. In addition, she taught refugee and migration law at universities in Spain and in Malta.

Anna is a frequent speaker at national and international immigration conferences and is the author of several publications, including Thomson West's Immigration Law Treatise 2d. She has also written many articles addressing issues relating to removal defense, immigration trial court practice and asylum.

Anna earned her bachelor's degree from Temple University and her law degree from Antioch School of Law. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1998 to research refugee issues in Spain and obtained a Masters in Advocacy from Georgetown University Law Center in 2002. Anna is fluent in Spanish. She is admitted to practice in Washington, D.C.
